| CLASS DATES The last Citizen Academy began February 9, 2012 and has graduated. The next Citizen Academy will start on Thursday, September 6, 2012. If you are interested in attending the next class or have questions regarding the Citizen Academy, contact Lt. Darin Lenyi at (949) 497-0750, ext. 230, or email dlenyi@lagunabeachcity.net with your name, date of birth, male or female, home address, drivers license number, occupation, and two telephone numbers where you can be reached. Also indicate whether you live and/or work in Laguna Beach. The Laguna Beach Police Department hosts the Citizen Police Academy for interested members of the community. The academy is a twelve-week non-stress course designed to provide community members with a better understanding of the Laguna Beach Police Department and to help foster better communications between police personnel and citizens. There is a graduation ceremony on the thirteenth week. The Academy will include instruction in the following areas: history of the Laguna Beach Police Department, investigations, traffic enforcement, accident investigation, driving under the influence investigation, gangs, narcotics, neighborhood watch, crime prevention, crime scene investigation, police K-9 program and volunteer programs. | There will also be a tour of the police facility, patrol vehicles and equipment used by the department. Academy members will also be given the chance to shoot at the police firing range, participate in mock scenarios and take a tour of Orange County Jail. Academy graduates will receive a Laguna Beach Police Department certificate of completion upon completing the program. Qualifications To be considered for the Citizen Academy, you must be at least 18 years of age, live or work in the City of Laguna Beach, have no felony convictions, have no pending civil or criminal cases with the city or its employees and have no outstanding warrants for arrest. Acceptance to the program will be considered on first come - first serve basis as the completed applications are received. LBPD reserves the right to refuse admittance into this program. Cost There is NO cost to attend the Citizen Academy. |
