Patrol consists largely of uniformed field personnel responsible for enforcement of municipal, state and federal laws. The Patrol Section with its 38 field officers is the main response team for calls for service. Officers are responsible for a specific area and respond to calls, patrol trouble spots and document incidents in that area.  .

Some patrol officers are assigned to special duty such as:

• Beach Patrol
• Bike Patrol
• Downtown Foot Patrol

Reserve officers supplement patrol officers by riding and working alongside the full-time officers, acting as booking officers or assisting during events. Police Explorers and Citizens on Patrol volunteers perform many duties which would otherwise be assigned to full time employees.

In the first photo in the picture gallery below, members of the Bike Patrol Team show off their gear. Officers must complete a special course in police bicycle operations before hitting the street on their bikes. The Bike Patrol Team has proven successful in providing service in the downtown area. Bikes provide the flexibility of foot patrol officers combined with greater speed.
